March 2009

Guest At Your Table
I hope you have been feeding the guest at your table. Thank you for participating in this project.  Please bring in your boxes on Sunday, March 22nd, when the funds will be tallied and sent to the UUSC.  We’ll report the results in next month’s VOICE.

Special Friends
We have 20 children and adults who are participating in this year’s Special Friends.  Some of the friends met at the church on Saturday, February, 14th to paint bowls for the Empty Bowls project.

Here are some things you can do together here at church:

  • Sit together during the service
  • The adult friend could visit their Special Friend’s Sunday school class
  • Spend time during coffee hour visiting together
  • Do something together for the church such as pick up trash in the yard, help clean up after coffee hour, help put the chairs away in the sanctuary
  • If you need more ideas, please pick up a brochure in the DRE’s office.

Special Friends officially continues until March 8th.

Chalice Children Advisors
After two years, Mark and Kimberly Petersen have chosen to resign as leaders of the Chalice Children, our youth group for 1st-5th graders, in order to concentrate their passions on the children’s choir.  They have been very dedicated in planning and carrying out a variety of activities, including camping trips, hikes to Rendija Canyon and Cave of the Winds, ice skating, skiing, a service project and picnic for Jemez House Thrift Store, and much more.  Mark and Kimberly have contributed so much to our church community, and I want to extend a special thank you for their efforts.  All of their work for the church is very much appreciated and I especially value their contribution to our Religious Exploration program.

A Special Thank You
We have many teen childcare providers who help make Sunday mornings run smoothly.  Childcare happens all over the church on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, at other times too.  I would like to thank all of our teens for the hard work they do and for being dependable and nurturing.  Our teen assistants are:

Nursery/Toddler Room: Wellner Ahluwalia (Supervisor), Cameron Van Cleave, Ryan Van Cleave (Apprentice), Eric Begnaud, Natalie Smith, and Sarah Bouquin.

Art Room and Play lot: Matthew Schauer and Miles Freeland (Supervisors), Jonah Dickens, Flannery Keating, and Evan Barlow. Brandon Cullinan and Hallie Thayer are new apprentices.

Rotation Workshops: Zoë Keating (Supervisor), Jodi Cull-Host, Gwynn Cunningham, and Cara Bianconi.

Substitutes: Leo Rose and Mireya Bouquin

Thank you so much for being such dedicated childcare providers.  Without you, our programs would not run smoothly.
