Immigration Study Group to Meet

by KokHeong McNaughton

The study guide for the Congregational Study Action Issue (CSAI) on “Immigration as a Moral Issue” has now been published and available online. We’ve scheduled a series of six consecutive Wednesday evenings to educate ourselves and one another on the very complex issues surrounding immigration both in the US and worldwide. The study group will meet on Wednesday nights beginning January 19, 2011 and run until the end of February. Each meeting will last for 1-½ hours with a short break.

If you have ever wondered “Why all the fuss about immigration?” or “What are the legal rights of undocumented workers?” or “What can we do to fix this broken system?” or any other questions you may have about (im)migration, here’s an opportunity to find out more!

The complete study guide is available at — http://www.uua.org/socialjustice/issuesprocess/currentissues/immigration/studyguide/index.shtml.

The six-week sessions cover the following topics –

  1. Week One: Understanding the Causes of Migration
  2. Week Two: History of Immigration in the U.S.
  3. Week Three: Economics of (Im)migration
  4. Week Four: Security, Enforcement, and Human Rights
  5. Week Five: Who Benefits from a Broken System?
  6. Week Six: Seeking Solutions
