[printprofilepic]So many wonderful thoughts are percolating…so many details are being listed…so many people engaged in important work….so many tasks to do still!!
With some of you on the DRE Search Committee, others on the building transition contingency committee (I made that up), some on the Building Planning Committee, others on the capital campaign team, and still others on the pledge campaign team—it’s hard not to get lost in or overwhelmed by the details. The RE committee recently completed its annual retreat (or extended work time, in fact) and during that time I encouraged them to keep their visions alive and vibrant, to be guided by the bigger picture of purpose and depth. Any community such as the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos always has tasks to be done, events to be planned and money to be raised. These could all be onerous and lacking in meaning if we don’t link them to the greater vision and mission.
Soon you’ll hopefully have a new DRE who will want to join you in realizing your greatest visions. In time you’ll have a beautiful building in which great transformations can happen. We each carry a bit of the overall vision so the actualizing of it doesn’t become cumbersome. While I’m not yet saying goodbye to you, it has been such a privilege for me to witness your enthusiasm and determination in the past two years. During our retreat I listed all the accomplishments of the RE committee over the past two years—they were numerous!! I also reminded them to celebrate and remember those accomplishments, and I urge all of you so busy with the life of the church to celebrate your successes and your hard work. The prize we keep our eyes on is nothing less than mutual care and love for the community and for life.
Happy Spring and see you on Sunday!

RE News
April 3: No RE classes/childcare available
April 24: A Different Type of Easter Hunt. Instead of kids hunting for plastic eggs we’ll offer a Canned Goods Easter Hunt that will be held from 10-11. Cans of food will be hidden by older kids and the younger ones will find them. When the hunt is done, we’ll decorate cookies.
The entire congregation can participate by bringing canned goods to Robinson Hall on April 10, 17, and 24. The cans will be given to LA Cares. This type of hunt finishes out our year of intentional RE social justice projects. (Birthday Bags for Esperanza Shelter, Guest at Your Table, Hunger Banquet, Empty Bowls for Self-Help support and in May grounds cleaning at church and maybe in town).
May 1: Social Justice Project (grounds projects)
It’s not too soon to think about teaching in the RE classes next fall. The children and youth have been so fortunate to have adults volunteer in May which helps the RE committee and DRE proceed with effective planning for the coming church year. If you need more information about what teaching entails contact me or members of the RE Committee.
