<itunes:summary>“The Pit Rule”, Sunday forum presented by Don Neeper on January 29, 2012. The regulatory process, intended to promote justice and public safety, establishes social controls and burdens varying from speed limits to banking practice. In the last primary election, every gubernatorial candidate on one ballot promised repeatedly to repeal New Mexico’s “pit rule,” which limits abandonment of oil field wastes on the landscape. With graphics, we’ll first explore why there is a pit rule, then look at how the political process has engineered nor its repeal, but is replacement with a counterfeit. Nationally, as elected representatives mount a broad attack on regulation whether good or bad, this procedure may become a dangerous model.</itunes:summary>

It is now estimated to be 1:110 individuals. The reasons for this increase are complex but it is critical that we work to understand the spectrum and how to live and work effectively with those who are affected by it. It isn’t a case of IF we will know an individual with ASD but WHEN we do!

This is part of the legislative agenda for this spring in New Nexico. Will this solution really work? Is it the best thing to do for a student? What about social promotion? Is this a successful strategy? Research points in another direction. There are successful strategies to keep a child at grade level before he/she falls behind.
