Podcasts of weekly Sunday sermons delivered by our Rev. John Cullinan and guests at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Visit our web site http://www.uulosalamos.org for more information.

Presented by the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos as an imprint under which sermons and talks by Unitarian Universalists are published and made freely available to all.

Los Alamos, New Mexico is a small mountain community of approximately 18,000 people one hour from Santa Fe. The church is part of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Mountain Desert district. Our congregation is midsize, with about 150 active members and about 100 friends. We have an active Religious Exploration (RE) program with 50-60 children enrolled in classes from toddlers to High School. Our church year typically starts in the middle of August and goes into the first week of June with regular services at 9 and 11 am. We also offer an Adult Religious Exploration Forum at 10:10 am. During the summer, we invite many outside speakers to explore a whole range of topics of general interest to the public.

We are a UUA-certified Welcoming Congregation and spearheaded the formation of and are now actively supporting the local chapter of PFLAG. Our vision is to affirm and exemplify our Principles and Purposes as we welcome and include all people of liberal faith, promote justice, encourage religious thought and experience in the best traditions of our heritage, and serve as an active testimony to the future.</itunes:summary>

As it happens I sat down and wrote the December column before I left; unfortunately, I forgot to send it to the Voice editor, Danise Begnaud, and it’s home on my computer!

[printprofilepic]Like many, I drifted into Unitarianism during college. I was influenced in that direction by two friends, both of who actually grew up in the Los Alamos

Unitarian Church. But I knew little about the Unitarian church other than that it was quite liberal with no universal creed or set of beliefs. Despite my general . . . → Read More: Learning to be Unitarian

[printprofilepic]I recently came across an interesting article in the Fall 2009 UU World. The article was entitled “The Gospel of Inclusion,” by Kimberley French. It described the changes in a particular Unitarian Church that occurred when they held a new service led by a Pentecostal minister, Rev. Carlton Pearson. A typical new service begins with . . . → Read More: Sound Familiar?

It might be tempting to believe that all of our members and friends share the same thoughts and ideas.

Making this assumption can be a mistake. Three examples:

1) Many years ago I . . . → Read More: Not All the Same

[printprofilepic]The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos has seen many changes during its life. Beginning in 1953 as a fellowship with 53 members and friends, it became an official church in 1960. Over the years, led by nine (called) interim, or informal ministers, it has grown to a congregation of roughly 150. I estimate that something . . . → Read More: President’s Page
