7:00pm - 9:00pm | Adult RE: History of Early ReligionsHearth RoomThis mini-course of four hours, divided into two lectures, will define the bounds of what is and is not religion. In this process the development of religion will be examined in terms of its effort to explain the perceived reality by using myth and ritual to define the real. Archaic religions, those religions in small scale societies with no scripture, will be examined to see how the sacred was perceived in oral traditions and in small groups. In the second lecture the concept of God, both gods and godesses, and the development of deities will be examined with some examples of the different directions taken in the East and the West as to the understanding of what is Real. Presenter - Eleanor M. Cooley, MA Religious studies |
