How can the best of activism and community organizing pair with socially conscious media to address the most challenging issues of our time? Just like a mosquito bite that you know you shouldn't scratch, we turn to the same old sources of information and expect a different outcome from engaging with them. How could independent and social media be employed through churches and other grass roots organizations to change the national dialogue?

July 14th (10:00 AM): "The Jefferson Bible: The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth" by Julie Loar
Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the US and founded??the University of Virginia. He was known as a Unitarian. He authored the??Declaration of Independence and created a Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom in the state of Virginia. While Thomas Jefferson??worked in the??White House in 1804, he decided to edit the Gospels. His intent was to??uncover the essence of the message of the life and teachings of Jesus. Jefferson did this by??extracting the message of love and service and??eliminating elements of doctrine had been added later by the church. He completed his book in 1819. Julie Loar will explore the??significance of??the results of Jefferson's efforts, which should provide fertile ground for a rich UU discussion.

The Sufi poet Rumi inspired on of our most beautiful hymns. But what does it mean to be a ???lover of leaving???? We???ll make a brief excursion into the attractions of the mystics of Islam.
